Motivation:

Swiss forestry is in financial, managerial, structural, and economic difficulties due to several reasons. With regard to logistics management, there is improvement potential due to poor standardization of processes.

Objectives:

The objective is to develop an exemplary process reference model for the wood supply chain from forest to mill, factory, or plant (including the management and execution processes of wood harvesting, selling, and transportation). The model is based on the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) and enables a common understanding among partners and facilitates standardization of processes and modeling of business models.

Activities completed:

Several workshops have been held. The Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model has been customized for forestry. A final publication is being prepared: Schnetzler, M.J. et al.: Das Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR)-Modell zur Beschreibung der Wertschöpfungskette Holz. In: Allgemeine Forst- und Jagdzeitung, to appear during spring 2008.
