Motivation:

The introduction of innovative mobile applications will enable new ways of working and collabora-tion among car manufacturers, workshops, road assistance services and the customer, who will all benefit from this. These new applications and services can be seamlessly and securely accessed by mobile devices. They will provide manufacturer specific car repair information according to the problems identified by the Off-/ On-Board-Diagnosis systems. MYCAREVENT will work with the German DIN to establish standards for the collaboration in the Automotive Industry and will support value creation by utilizing the potentials of mobile devices and the interoperable use of service portals. MYCAREVENT is supported by 10 million Euro of EU funding.

Objectives:

The MYCAREVENT consortium consists of 21 dedicated partners from nine European countries which will offer solutions to practical challenges emerging from the New Block Exemption Regulation for the European Aftermarket. MYCAREVENT is being coordinated by the Research Institute for Opera-tions Management – FIR at Aachen University of Technology, Germany. In 36 months project runtime leading European car manufacturers, independent and dependent workshops and road assistance services, software developers, diagnostic tool manufacturers, and leading academics will thus enable the highest possible service-level for the European mobile society. An impact in European Aftermarket sector is feasible only with the close cooperation and dedication of leading OEMs and service providers.

Activities completed:

The ETH researchers were active in six of the nine work packages. They successfully led several deliverables in the areas of business modeling, service workflow, quality management, and risk management. Additionally, the ETH was significantly involved in the evaluation tasks that were imminent in the last year of the project runtime. ETH significantly supported the public trade show event in Birmingham in June. Finally, the review meeting at the European Commission in Aachen with 5 independent expert reviewers in November 2007 represented a successful end to the project.
