Financed by:

Software AG

Motivation:

The metalanguage eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is an excellent starting point for supporting business-extended co-operations. Therefore the potential of XML-technologies is generally estimated to be highly significant in the field of business to business applications (b2b) and supply chain software (scm) tools. It is expected that theses technologies - in connection with additional semantic standards - will change the way business processes are extended over the Internet. In order to evaluate the potential of these new Internet opportunities, and to investigate the XML opportunities in particular, a concrete case study has been formulated.
This case study has been set up in a close co-operation between our research institute and the Swiss branch of an eCommerce Company, Software AG. This pilot project will evaluate the possibilities of the XML database of Software AG (Tamino Information Server) for future applications in eCommerce applications.

Objectives of the project:

The objective is to specify and implement a industrial engineering multimedia database using the newest XML technologies.

Status of the project:

The project was started in November 1999 and will be finished in March 2000.

The following activities are in progress:

Evaluation and concept of XML-based b2b and supply chain applications.
