Motivation:

Because of the limitation of available resources, it is often very difficult for small and mid-sized enterprises to assess the performance of their logistics processes and to evaluate possible options for organizational changes.

The objectives of the project are:

  • Adaptation of existing methodologies for the description of different logistics processes to the specific needs of small- and mid-sized enterprises.
  • Development of criteria for the assessment of the logistics processes. Economic as well as human-oriented aspects should be covered by these criteria to get a holistic impression of the quality of specific processes.
  • Analysis and assessment of logistic processes in small- and mid-sized enterprises of different branches of industry according to this methodology.
  • Deduction of reference models of the logistic processes to support the solution findings in the redesigning of processes in small and mid-sized enterprises.

The following activities have already been completed:

  • The project was successfully completed in spring 1999 by the publication of guidelines.
