Motivation:
At the production site of Mercedes-Benz in Vitoria, Spain, the type Vito/V-Class is produced. For the new generation of van vehicles new logistics and production concepts and systems have to be developed. Thereby, several constraints have to be taken into account, e.g. use of existing resources, mainly cost-intensive systems such as paint shop and buildings. However, to meet the new production capacity requirements, new systems have to be added or extended. Thus, simulation tools like Simple++ will be used to support and validate the planning of the new logistics and production systems, including static calculation based on expected material flows, as well as dynamic simulation using the expected availabilities for the installations.
The objectives of the project are:
- Development of a concept for the simulation model using object-oriented modeling techniques
- Identification of critical performance indicators based on the simulation model
- Development of a strategy for the new color sequence buffer
Status of the project:
The project was completed at the end of 1999.
The following activities have already been completed:
Based on the simulation model, requirements for the new paint shop were identified and validated by several different business case scenarios. The results were also handed over to the paint shop manufacturer, who will also use this model for his own purposes.
